Even in the bleakest, darkest, and grimmest scenarios, there’s always a little room forlevity. When it comes to video games, those moments can range from hidden endings and silly cutscenes to completely out-of-place Easter eggs.
8 Weirdest Video Game Cosmetics
I need more goofy things to wear in serious situations.
Even in the most serious games, whether it’s gritty action or full-on horror, these moments can either help us stay connected to the human side of things… or completely destroy our suspension of disbelief, all for the sake of a good joke.
Here are 10 of the funniest moments in games that usually take themselves very seriously.

10Ellie’s Joke Book
The Last of Us Part 1
The Last of Us
A post-apocalyptic world infested by fungus zombies is not a great environment for humor to thrive. That’s why Ellie’s terrible pun book inThe Last of Usis a much-needed ray of light.
Every now and then, usually after a tense or emotional moment, she’ll pull out her joke book and hit Joel with the absolute worst one-liners imaginable — stuff like “A moon rock tastes better than an earthly rock because it’s meat-eor.”

It’s goofy, awkward, and totally endearing. Watching Joel slowly warm up to her corny sense of humor is a big part of what makes their bond feel so real. Even in the apocalypse, dumb jokes still matter.
9Mordin Solus Sings Gilbert & Sullivan
Mass Effect 2
Fextralife Wiki
Mass Effect 2is packed with intense moments and life-or-death choices, but one of its funniest surprises comes from the most unlikely character —Mordin Solus. The fast-talking, no-nonsense Salarian scientist has a hidden flair for musical theater, and if you poke around enough, you’ll catch him belting out a modified version of I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General.
Hearing this hyper-efficient genius rattle off rapid-fire lyrics about biology, alien species, and battlefield tactics is pure gold. It’s weird, it’s unexpected, and it’s an absolute gift of a moment in an otherwise serious space opera.

It’s also a moment that hits the player like a brick when his love for Gilbert & Sullivan comes up again in Mass Effect 3 in a… less than humurous situation.
8Hitler’s Bizarre Auditions
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
Wolfenstein IIis brutal, violent, and unrelentingly dark — which makes its weirdest sceneeven more unforgettable. Midway through the game, BJ Blazkowicz ends up on Venus (yeah, really) pretending to audition for a Nazi propaganda film. The director? None other than Adolf Hitler himself, now old, senile, in a bathrobe, and completely off his rocker.
He rambles nonsense, pees on the floor, shoots an actor in a rage, and then randomly falls asleep mid-scene. The whole thing feels like a fever dream, constantly shifting between horrifying and hilarious.

But none of that is as hilarious as watching BJ trying to keep his cool and not just leap across the room and strangle him on the spot. Now that’s some serious self-control.
7Drunken Night at Kaer Morhen
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Even rugged, all-business guys like the witchers of the Wolf School need a break sometimes. A night to relax with the boys and knock back a few… or a lot.
The night before a huge turning point in the story ofThe Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Geralt, Eskel, and Lambert (and even Yennefer for a bit) decide to catch up over drinks. As you’d expect, it gets out of hand fast. They drink so much that even a witcher’s enhanced metabolism can’t keep up.

What starts as a quiet eveningturns into complete chaos. There’s dressing up in Yennefer’s clothes, Eskel disappears without a trace, and they end up prank-calling Hierarch Hemmelfart while he’s relieving himself.
It’s a hilarious, surprisingly wholesome reminder that even the most grim and brooding warriors need to let off some steam now and then.
6Arthur and Lenny’s Drunken Bar Escapade
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2spends most of its time being grim, violent, and emotionally heavy — which is exactly why Arthur and Lenny’s night out is such a perfect break.
What starts as a casual drink turns into a full-on, blackout bender complete with singing, dancing, and some of the best drunken dialogue in gaming.
Red Dead Redemption 2: 8 Ways To Make A Second Playthrough Different
Maybe Arthur deserves a second chance.
The highlight? Arthur drunkenly wandering the bar yelling “Lenny?!” at every person he sees, eventually hallucinating that everyone in the room has Lenny’s face. It’s chaotic, hilarious, and one of the few moments where Arthur actually gets to have fun before everything falls apart.
5Sanguine’s Drinking Game
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
OK, at this point, I’m convinced game devs think that putting usually serious characters on a drunken bender is comedy gold. And honestly, they’re not necessarily wrong.
InSkyrim’sA Night to Remember, the Dragonborn takes on a drinking challenge from a random guy named Sam. Next thing you know, you wake up in a temple with zero memory of what happened, and it only gets weirder from there.
Somewhere along the way, you’ve apparently stolen a goat, gotten engaged to a hagraven, and left chaos in your wake across half of Skyrim. The twist? Sam turns out to beSanguine, the Daedric Prince of Debauchery, and the whole thing was just one massive divine bar crawl.
It’s ridiculous, chaotic, and easily one of the funniest and most memorable quests in the game.
4Cloud’s Dress-Up Infiltration
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII Remake
In a game filled with existential dread, eco-terrorism, and the looming threat of a meteor crashing into the planet, one of the most ridiculous and iconic moments is… Cloud cross-dressing to infiltrate a mansion.
To rescue Tifa from crime boss Don Corneo, Cloud has to disguise himself as a woman and win the Don’s favor. In the originalFinal Fantasy VII, this meant running around Wall Market collecting makeup, a wig, and a dress; and, obviously, getting into a squats contest with gym bros.
The remakesomehow goes even harder. Cloud’s makeover is now the grand finale of a full-blown musical number at a cabaret club, complete with dance choreography and dramatic spotlights. It’s flashy, weird, and totally unforgettable. A perfectly over-the-top reinterpretation of a moment that’s been making fans laugh for decades.
3The Secret Cow Level
Diablo 2: Resurrected
Diablo IIis all about darkness, struggle, demons fighting for power, brutal violence and, sometimes, axe-wielding cows. Yes, really.
The Secret Cow Level started as an internet joke about a hidden area filled with killer cows in the original Diablo, and Blizzard decided to fully embrace the chaos in the sequel. Unlock it, and you’re suddenly swarmed by upright hell-cows, mooing aggressively as they charge, led by the ominous Cow King.
It’s so wildly out of place that it instantly became legendary to the point that the cow level has been referenced or brought back in almost every Diablo-related product ever since.
2Sergeant Johnson’s Secret Elite Hug
Halo: Combat Evolved
Halousually plays it straight with bigexplosions, heroic sacrifices, and intense space battles. But if you manage to beat Combat Evolved on Legendary, the game throws you a curveball for one of the weirdest and funniest hidden scenes in the franchise’s history.
As the Pillar of Autumn blows up, instead of going down guns blazing, Sergeant Johnson and a Covenant Elite just decide to drop their weapons and… hug it out. No fighting, no drama. They lock eyes, drop their weapons, and share a quiet little moment while the whole place is about to go up in flames.
It’s bizarre, hilarious, and totally worth the pain of Legendary.
1The Dog Ending
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 2is a slow, haunting descent intoguilt, grief, and psychological horror, which creates the perfect scenario for The Dog Ending to give you a comedic whiplash.
Instead of a final revelation about trauma or buried memories, James bursts into a hidden control room… only to discover a Shiba Inu has been behind everything the whole time. The fog, the monsters, the radio static. All controlled by a very good boy pushing buttons and pulling levers. Cue goofy music and a cutscene of James dropping to his knees in despair as the dog licks his face.
As the game fades to black to a dog-themed credits roll, you’re left facing your “accomplishments,” asking yourself if bursting into laughs or throwing the controller through the screen is the proper reaction. Absolutely brilliant.
