Bloober Teamwasn’t done with creating a spectacular game, though, as there are tons of secrets and Easter Eggs that can be found withinSilent Hill 2.

Silent Hill 2 remake sales has already reached one million units for downloads and packaged versions combined.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Mary’s Body in the backseat of James’s Car

Some of them are subtle, adding to the fear and tension—for example, the human corpses found throughout the town areJames Sunderlandhimself. Others, however, are just fun nods and references to the lore and other games in the series.

These Easter Eggs can be found directly within the game, or through a free-camera mod. However they’re seen though, they’re all fantastic references that reward long-time fans of the series.

This article contains spoilers for the story of Silent Hill 2.

10Mary’s Body

Laying in the Back Seat of James’s Car

The entire premise of Silent Hill 2 revolves around the protagonist, James, looking for his late wife,Mary, after receiving a mysterious letter from her. It’s not until the end of the game, however, that it’s revealed James had killed Mary during the height of her disease.

The game never outright says thatMary’s body is in the backseat of James’s car. In fact, trying to view the backseat in the actual game is impossible. The door will close, and the windows are too darkly tinted.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Green Pharmacy Receipt

One of the game’s endings, theIn Waterending, implies her body is in the back seat, but it was heavily debated by the fandom.

It wasn’t untilTeam Silent’sart director,Masahiro Ito,confirmed it in a tweetback in 2012. So, when the remake was dropped, a free camera mod made the impossible possible — Mary’s body could, in fact, be found in the back seat of James’s car.

9The Silent Hill Ranch Sign in Comic Sans

A Nudge to the HD Collection

The Silent Hill HD Collection, to put it very simply, was a hot mess.

It made many unnecessary changes to Team Silent’s games, and, to the disappointment of many, they were downgrades. One of the oddest changes, in particular, is the sign for the Silent Hill Ranch in the second game: instead of being an average sign, it was redone in Comic Sans font.

Developers at Bloober Team decided to pay homage to this horrifying font, by including the sign in the remake. It’s hidden away at the ranch, out of bounds in the barn in the background.

While it can only be found with the free camera mod, it’s a hilarious reference nonetheless. It also rewards players with one of the scariest scares in the entire game: Comic Sans as a concept.

8Green Pharmacy Receipt

Environmental Storytelling and Foreshadowing

While it’s unclear what disease Mary had exactly, it’s heavily implied to be a type of cancer. The remake ties this correlation even closer, especially upon entering the Green Pharmacy in town.

There’s a receipt that can be found on the main counter, detailing an expensive purchase for Relevmid, Berolmin, Xalprazinax, and Imatnelimed.

These prescriptions aren’t real themselves, but are instead intentional misspellings and combinations of real medications: Revlimid, Bondormin/Berolin, Alprazolam/Xanax, and Imantinib.

OG Silent Hill 2 Artist Says Bloober Made “Correct Choice” in Design Decision for One Boss Fight

Silent Hill 2 artist Masahiro Ito says Bloober made the correct choice in their design for one particular boss fight.

These medications specifically treat blood cancers and anxiety disorders — more specifically, acute myeloid leukemia. They can also help with insomnia, opening airways for breathing, and panic attacks.

It’s such a mortifying find, one that really emphasizes James’s headspace having to constantly obtain these medications and the potential financial strain it would cause.

And, for the cherry on top, a newspaper with a headline detailing changing insurance prices can be found in the apartments. There are so many little details that reference Mary’s terminal illness that it’s spectacular.

7The Chainsaw Animation

Only Available on New Game Plus

Authentic to the original game, playing Silent Hill 2 onNew Game Plusallows players to have access to a fun new weapon: the chainsaw.

Getting the chainsaw awards players with theLumberjacktrophy, and it also provides hilarious new animations. One of them involves James crossing his legs and using the chainsaw as a makeshift cane, but the other is a lot more fun.

Letting out his innerLeatherface, James raises the chainsaw over his head and lets out a battle cry. He doesn’t do this every time he equips the chainsaw, but every once in a while as a treat for players.

He’s either a huge fan ofTexas Chainsaw Massacre, or maybe he just needs to let off some steam. Either is understandable when wielding a chainsaw in Silent Hill, honestly.

6The Infamous Pizza Line

Said in Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama

In the original game, one of the characters,Eddie, can be found eating a pizza. To James, this is the most bizarre thing he’s ever seen, one that he voices out loud with the now famous line: “This town is full of monsters! How can you sit there and eat pizza?!”

Somehow, out of everything James had dealt with up to this point, snacking on some pizza was just the final straw.

This is referenced in the remake, hilariously enough. Upon enteringPete’s Bowl-O-Rama, players can find an empty box of eaten pizza, rewarding them with theLeftoverstrophy.

Afterwards, James says the line — a fun nod to the original game.

5The OG Silent Hill 2 Map

Found in the Woodside Apartments Courtyard

Getting into theWoodside Apartmentsis not the simplest task, and the game doesn’t pull any punches once inside. Riddled with monsters, a horrific ambiance, and the introduction of the iconicPyramid Head, it’s one of the most memorable and terrifying locations in the game.

It’s also full of secrets.

Silent Hill 2 Mod turns Pyramid Head into Thomas the Terror Engine

Pulling an Aldiun, I see?

Located in the central courtyard, fans found another reference to the original game. This time, it’s the original map, clean and unmarked of any red corrections.

Of course, being authentic to the original game, it’s easy to glance over on first playthrough, as the layout is similar to the map players have in their inventory. But for those with a keen eye, it’s a lovely homage.

4Douglas’s Hat

A Hopeful Reference to Silent Hill 3

Jack’s Innis a motel riddled with Easter Eggs for the Silent Hill games, not all of which are exclusive to the original game.

InSilent Hill 3, the protagonist,Heather Mason, travels with detectiveDouglas Cartland(who is frequently seen in a grey hat) to the titular town, stopping at Jack’s Inn along the way. They stay inRoom 106in particular.

When players enter Room 106 in this game, they’re able to find Douglas’s hat resting on a chair. Of course, James doesn’t comment on it, as it looks like any other hat to him; but to veteran players, it’s another heart in the love letter that this game is.

If anything, it makes fans hopeful thatKonamiwould agree to allow Bloober Team to remake the other Team Silent games.

3Walter Sullivan

Mentioned at Several Hidden Points

For those who have playedSilent Hill 4: The Room, the nameWalter Sullivanwill be strikingly familiar. He’s the main antagonist of the game, a murderer who ritualistically kills forThe Order, the game’s main cult.

In this game, his name can be found littered throughout the town of Silent Hill, almost as if it’s afraid of him. They’d have good reason to, however: one newspaper detailed how he brutally murdered a pair of siblings (who would later be the infamousTwin Victims).

His murders are referenced throughout various maps, another instance of subtle foreshadowing from the original games. Walter’s grave can also be found just around the corner from James’s own.

A Flashback to Silent Hill 4: The Room

Walter isn’t the only reference to Silent Hill 4: The Room that Bloober Team includes, but this one is more likely to cause a double-take.

In the Woodside Apartments,Room 302in particular should look familiar. This is because it’s a complete recreation oftheiconic Room 302 from Silent Hill 4, the one that the protagonist,Henry Townshend, is trapped in.

Silent Hill 2 Has Been Turned Into LEGO And Fans Want A Full Game

This Silent Hill 2 fan-made LEGO game has players craving for it to be real.

Unfortunately, there’s no massive hole in the bathroom, but the door isn’t also chained up, so it’s easy to think that the events of 4 might take place before the events of 2.

This is especially prevalent considering the fact that, in Silent Hill’s lore, James’s father,Frank Sunderland, is the superintendent of Henry’s apartment complex.

If fans didn’t desperately want Bloober Team to remake the other Team Silent games, the feelings are definitely much stronger with each reference to those games.

1Maria’s Original Outfit

Including Fun Dialogue From Maria

When rummaging through Jacks Inn, players are greeted upon a lovely surprise when enteringRoom 108. Tucked away in the closet is Maria’s original outfit from the original game.

At first, it feels like just a fun homage, until players unlock the door to let Maria in. After exploringRoom 107and returning to 108, James will find Maria holding the iconic outfit.

She’ll hold it up and ask James what he thinks of it, and if he thinks that she’ll look good in it. To which he replies: “Umm…sure.”

With that, she playfully moves on, and fans are given not just a love letter to the original game, but a small kiss on the forehead, too.
